The trail is open all year around as The Sanctuary Walk, just under a mile long walk through the nature reserve of An Sanctoir.
The Sanctuary Walk meanders through meadows and woodland, lake and riverside, an ancient stone walled trackway and rugged heather and gorse clad mountain path; all with stunning views of the surrounding West Cork landscape.
Waterproof footwear is recommended.
Sculpture Train Update – April 2016
An Sanctoir hopes to have a Sculpture Trail every Summer. Dates to be announced.
Sculpture Trail Update – April 2015
Work is gathering pace on The Sculpture Trail ready for its opening on the weekend of 13th and 14th June. The Dragon has moved from her hollow , thanks to many hands helping at the Spring Equinox AGM, and is currently being rewoven in fresh green willows. The willows are all cut and gathered locally, and red dogwood will be cut around An Sanctoir to use as a contrasting red top coat in places. The dragon seems very settled in her new site, silhouetted against the sky.
Work elsewhere on the trail is going great, although growing moss sculptures is proving tricky !! A massive repainting of the Spiral Woman is underway, (thank heaven for the dry sunny weather,) she is changing shape somewhat this year and will be candle lit for the evening of the opening weekend.
New signs for the trail are being made and carved, and the mountain section of the trail will be used on Susy s playground matrix on 25th April, a fundraiser for building a grass roofed structure for kids camps etc in the bowl field. This promises to be a family adventure and day out , funding a great development for the bowl field , which so many remember fondly from Frog Fair days !
